CONCLUSION
The effects of competitiveness in curbing the effects of gerrymandering are very significant. By increasing competitiveness, voter cynicism decreases. More competitive districts mean that very few votes can have an impact on who wins and who loses the election, so voters will be reinvigorated in the political process and go out to cast their ballots. Increasing competitiveness also decreases party polarization because candidates running in a close district will have to appeal to the broader middle as opposed to the strident sides and will have to be more willing to compromise if they want to have increased chances at being elected.
